During a Pyramid Valley wine dinner at Melbourne restaurant Bacash in September, our Waikari Estate Assistant Amanda Kinch got chatting with a guest who revealed she fell in love with the Snake’s Tongue wine thanks to its depiction of the blue borage flower on the label.
She’d been drawn to the wine on the shelf of her local bottle store based on the beautiful botanical illustration, purchasing a bottle on the spot then returning some days later for more. She then learned of an upcoming Pyramid Valley dinner at Bacash, South Yarra – a Melbourne institution for fine seafood and great wine dinners.
Undeterred by a fiancé who doesn’t drink wine, a solo ticket was purchased with a glass of Snake’s Tongue and an evening alongside fellow wine enthusiasts enough to seal the deal. A woman after my own heart and I suspect a future piece for this newsletter must now be written on the art of solo dining.
While wine dinners are usually an opportunity to hear from the winemaker and ask those burning questions on farming, the cellaring process and aging potential, it’s these stories we, the producers get a kick out of. Learning where a guest was first introduced to our wine and why it’s now a staple in their cellar. Meeting those who have come along as a plus one, but left as an aficionado. It is these conversations that validate our purpose of existing to share the pleasure, culture and craft of fine wine.
